Wow, I'm SUPER late on this one. Wow, wow, wow. It's almost Christmas, though, and I'm really busy so I hope I'm forgiven?

Not really spoilers much, I think, given that it's been so long since the episode actually aired, but still.

I'm not getting into the Dean vs. Sam debate again. I feel like I've made my point somewhere around 8x06 and don't have the urge to go back to it. Let's just say that love how they're dealing with their fall-out because it seems to me that it's shown very clearly that both Sam and Dean, and neither of them at the same time, are in the right. I just wish fandom had a bit more perception and could see that, too.

And it looks like Amelia is real, damn it! ;D Well then.

What I want to talk about is Benny. Because Benny, and his storyline, and his excuses and alibi, are shady at best. I might be wrong here, but I do think that he was, actually, the one murdering all those people. I can't put my finger on it, not really, and you are free to disagree with me, but all the talk about 'Benny being the only who hasn't let Dean down yet,' and 'more of a brother to Dean than Sam has ever been,' is just suspicious. Never mid the fact that for someone who claims that his hunger is 100% under control, he seems to have a lot of problems to keep himself in check when faced with Dean's blood - Dean, who he himself calls brother and is probably his only friend and ally; and even when faced with Elizabeth's blood - Elizabeth, who is actually his family. (Also, Show, Roy and Elizabeth? Way to give me Fullmetal Alchemist feels.)

If he has that much of a hard time staying in line when it comes to people Benny loves, how could he resist the blood of a complete stranger?

I don't know. I might be wrong; part of me wants to be wrong because I like Benny, and I want to keep him, but part of me is still hung up on the concept of Dean's Ruby. I think he would make a really nice villain. It would be angst-inducing.

Thoughts? :)

I'M SORRY I CAN'T HELP IT I DON'T WANT BENNY TO BE LYING. I really like him, and I feel like I can understand why Dean is so attached to him--even if Dean's "Benny is the ONLY ONE WHO EVER REALLY LOVED ME!!" is obviously unfair it is at least a little justified from Dean's Traumavision (TM). But I hear you re: Benny's inability to resist temptation, but that might just be sloppy writing...

Also, hello! I'm sort of sad you've got a new name; it makes my holiday card moot already. But hi!

I think it would be so awesome, though, because right now they have almost everyone believing that Benny is GOOD. Ruby was shady from the very beginning, and didn't have many people fooled (except Sam. And Jared, I guess), but Benny is actually in the position where people would be shocked if he turned out to be evil.

And I want him to be reluctantly evil; maybe the angels helped him find the Purgatory portal and now he's indebted to them, and they make an ultimatum - either we kill you, or you [insert word of choice] betray Dean. And Benny doesn't really want to, because Benny likes Dean, but his survival instincts are too strong to just let himself be killed for him. And so he goes and betrays him. (Thins kind of sounds like a rehash of Cas's storyline a little, but... It would be gloriously angsty? I don't even know. I'm an angst whore.) (Someone write me a fic?!)

Also, I don't want no sloppy writing in my Show! ;D I'll perform serious characterization-acrobatics to make it all work somehow.

Your holiday card will never be moot! ;u; I'm printing it out as soon as I get anywhere near a working printer and putting it on a nice visible place. Because it's adorable. <3

Goddamn it, I think I like your angsty brain even better than I like Benny...god but I love this weird manifestation of Dean's abandonment issues...

This whole Benny-storyline is deliciously painful, no matter what happens.

I'm still stuck on that bit in Purgatory where Benny says, "They said the portal would be here." and he never explained who THEY were. Angels? Alpha vamp? Demons?

I know, right? I know! He's so sketchy it makes me want to die, yet I love him for some reason.

He's not Ruby-sketchy though, he's not hiding an agenda or offering Dean help in his tablet quest. I'm waiting for Benny to be offered an alliance with one of the bad guys, like "Dean, the Angels said they could turn me human again if you would JUST COOPERATE, c'mon what could possibly go wrong?"

Mmmmh, that's possible. I think, however, that he actually is in league with the angels (or demons... Or someone...) and they will eventually turn him on Dean. In that "either you kill/manipulate/whatever him or we kill you" way and you know how survival-oriented the Supernatural creatures are.

I have no doubt that Benny genuinely likes Dean, I just think he still values his own life a bit more.

I really wonder how Martin's death is gonna play out once either of the Boys track Benny down. I mean can Dean REALLY just give him a pass on that, "well he was crazy and not a close friend of mine, so no big?"

I don't really think that's what the situation was about. Benny didn't kill Martin out of spite, or because he was in his way; Martin was threatening not only Benny's life (and as far as we know, Benny is innocent - at least he hasn't proven not to be, so everything was done in self-defence) but the life of Elizabeth as well. And a hunter or not, good intentions or not, that is crossing the line. Martin didn't give Benny a lot of choices to work with.

They live in a world with rules of its own, I don't think we can really judge them by our laws anymore, any of them; not even (especially) the Winchesters. I think Benny's actions were "justified" and Dean will probably see it the same way. Sam most certainly won't, but Sam's a little blinded by jealousy and hurt feelings at the moment.

We'll see how things will play out.

I think you might be onto something here (but then, I did think that of Amelia at first too, lol!)

I'm afraid, and I mean I really am, for Dean, that Benny has been set up by whomever (angels, demons, vamps, writers...) to be someone Dean trusts, even over Sam and who will break his heart. Maybe not by betraying him. Maybe Dean will end up having to kill Benny himself. Either way my poor poor baby will be heartbroken. Yet again. And again he will make the experience that all his relationships at some point turn to crap. And that he fails every single person he loves.

*big sigh*

Hahah, I just think the writers like to mess with us. They throw us something and make us believe it's a piece of meat and they watch us tear each other apart for it, and then they go, "Oh, you sillies, it's been a rubber chew-toy all along!" ;D I am not ashamed to admit that they managed to trick me in believe Amelia was imaginary.

Yes. As I pointed out above, I believe Benny is in league, somehow, with the angels; perhaps they've given him the directions for the Purgatory exit, and now he's indebted to them, or maybe they are mind-controlling him like they do Cas. Or maybe it's something completely different, but I do believe that in the end, they (whoever 'they' are) will sic Benny on Dean in one way or another.

And it's gonna be emotionally painful. Better start bracing ourselves!
